Which Geberit flush plate will fit? Compatibility explained
A new actuator plate, also known as a flush plate, brings a fresh look to your bathroom. To ensure it can be replaced easily, it must match the existing Geberit cistern concealed behind the wall. It’s the cistern that determines which new plate is compatible.
This guide explains what to look out for. A plumber can help you identify your existing concealed cistern, order a new actuator plate and install it professionally for your WC.
How to find the right Geberit flush plate Checklist
Step by step to making the right choice
- Identify your system: Work out which cistern system you have (e.g. Geberit Sigma or Omega)
- Check compatibility: Only look at actuator plates for the same type of cistern
- Choose a new plate: Choose the design and button shape to suit your personal taste
- Purchase and install: A sanitary professional will need to order and install the plate for you
Not every Geberit actuator plate fits every cistern
Even though manyof our actuator plateslook similar at first glance, they differ in technical terms. Each Geberit actuator plate is designed for a specific cistern system and must be attached to that system. The mechanics and actuation of the plate and the cistern must work together. This is the only way to ensure your WC will flush reliably.
Our most common cistern systems are Geberit Sigma and Geberit Omega. Geberit Sigma actuator plates are only compatible with Geberit Sigma cisterns. Plates from the Geberit Sigma series do not fit on cisterns from the Geberit Omega series and vice versa.
Key point when buying a new actuator plate: your new Geberit actuator plate must have the same name as the cistern beneath it. Only then are they compatible. We cannot guarantee compatibility with actuator plates from other manufacturers.

Understanding Geberit Sigma and Omega
The Geberit Sigma and Omega cistern systems feature the same high-quality flush technology but differ in terms of installation and space requirements, for example when dealing with sloping ceilings or shallow walls.
Geberit Sigma is the most widely used concealed cistern. It’s the standard choice for new builds and renovations. Geberit Omega was designed for bathrooms where space is limited or where the flush cannot be actuated from the front in the traditional way. The product range may vary from country to country.
Common reasons for incorrect purchases and installation problems
There are various reasons why a new actuator plate might not fit. Common reasons include:
- The plate was selected solely based on its design, without considering its compatibility with the existing cistern system
- The existing Geberit cistern model was either not identified at all or was incorrectly identified

Step 1: Identify the Geberit cistern
Remove the flush plate to find the information you need
Which Geberit cistern do I have? The answer to this question lies behind the flush plate. To identify which cistern you have, you need to remove the existing plate and mounting frame from the wall. Behind it, you’ll find information about the cistern type printed on a label or cover.
Please note: The plate should only be removed by aspecialistto avoid any damage.
Find the model, type or PA number
Typical product features such as the protection plate or dimensions make it easy to work out which Geberit model you have. The type designation (e.g. Sigma or Omega) or production number (PA number) is often printed on or behind the protection plate.
In theGeberit Pro app, which is aimed at sanitary professionals, you can identify the model using the “Product identifier” function based on a photo of the existing actuator plate. The app recognises all Geberit concealed cisterns manufactured from 1964 onwards.
Notes for older cisterns (year of manufacture, protection plate, labelling)
Although we no longer produce older Geberit cisterns, such as the UP300, Artline, Kappa or Twinline models, compatible actuator plates are available for these and other models. On older cisterns, stickers may be missing or markings may be illegible. However, a sanitary professional can clearly identify any cistern.

Step 2: Choose the right flush plate
Once you know whether you have a Geberit cistern from the Sigma or Omega series, or another type, you can select a suitable actuator plate. You can find all available designs in the virtual showroom for actuator plates.
Flush plates with round or square actuator buttons are available for the popular Geberit Sigma and Omega systems. Button shape has no impact on compatibility. It’s just a matter of taste. We recommend choosing an actuator plate that complements the existing design language of your bathroom. For example, if you have a round washbasin, you might want to choose an actuator plate with round buttons.
You can purchase all models from a specialist retailer and have them professionally installed by a sanitary pro.

Frequently asked questions about replacing Geberit flush plates
Do we need to open the wall to replace the flush plate?
No. No work is required on the wall itself. After removing the old flush plate, the new one will fit back in the same place.
Why isn’t the flush working properly after replacing the flush plate?
There can be few reasons why a WC won’t flush properly after replacing the plate, including:
- Incorrect installation: If the flush actuation hasn’t been set correctly, the WC might not flush properly or at all. This is why actuator plates must only be installed by a sanitary professional.
- The cistern and actuator plate are not compatible: With Geberit, the actuator plate andconcealed cisternmust belong to the same flushing system – for example, Sigma actuator plates on Sigma cisterns. You cannot combine different systems with each other.
- Actuator plate from another manufacturer: Third-party products may not be compatible with Geberit cisterns and may cause functionality issues.
- Soiled or calcified flush or fill valves: If thesevalvesin the cistern no longer work properly, it can affect the flush performance or cause water to keep running into the toilet.
- Missing conversion set: Older cisterns may need an additional conversion set for new actuator plates.
Are third-party actuator plates compatible with Geberit cisterns?
Geberit recommends using only original Geberit actuator plates to ensure toilets flush correctly. Geberit actuator plates are designed to work perfectly with their corresponding flushing system.
Are spare parts available for Geberit flush plates?
Yes. If your existing flush plate isn’t working properly, you don’t always have to replace the whole thing. Suitable spare parts are available from specialist retailers for many models.
