Pearl for Africa Marriott Hotel Kampala, Uganda

In Uganda's capital, a new hotel gem is taking shape with the Marriott Kampala. In the video interview, the designers reveal how local design elements and Geberit solutions blend to create a unique hotel experience.

Lake Victoria, the world’s second-largest freshwater lake, shapes the landscape and life of East Africa. On its northern shore lies Kampala, Uganda’s vibrant capital. In the district of Nsambya, the new Marriott Hotel Kampala is about to open its doors.

The interior design was created by MMAC Design Associates from Dubai, a studio founded in 2013 by Christian Merieau and Anil Mangalat. Together, they have designed more than 100 hotels worldwide. Christian Merieau, an interior architect from Geneva (CH), originally comes from a hotel management background, while Anil Mangalat is an architect and interior designer with a master’s degree from the Domus Academy in Milan (IT). For the Marriott, the duo combined marble, intricate woodwork, and natural textures to create a sensual, spa-like atmosphere that reflects Uganda’s natural beauty.

Geberit solutions are featured both in front of and behind the walls: SuperTube ensures space-saving and efficient building drainage, while Pluvia uses negative pressure to channel rainwater from the roof. In the guest areas, sanitary solutions such as CleanLine60 shower channels, rimless Smyle WCs, and Sigma20 and Sigma50 actuator plates seamlessly combine design and functionality.

Anil Mangalat says: “Geberit has been reliable for years – not only in terms of product quality, but also thanks to strong on-site support, product training, project assistance and reliable contact persons at all times.”

In the video interview, Christian Merieau and Anil Mangalat talk about their project in Kampala – and contemporary bathroom design.
